FINISHES

Specifying an Unlacquered Bronze Finish

Our unlacquered waxed bronze finish is one of our most expressive surfaces designed to age, evolve, and tell a story over time. To help you make an informed decision, this page highlights the natural characteristics of the finish, how it may change with use, and how best to care for it.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Dip Markings

Due to the hand-finishing process, small dip marks may be visible. These are typically on discreet or concealed areas of the product. These are part of the nature of this finish and not considered defects.

Surface Marking

This finish is lightly waxed after application, creating a soft, tactile surface. It is delicate by nature, and may mark during production, assembly, or installation. These marks are purely cosmetic and will soften with time, blending into the evolving patina as the finish settles into its environment.

You may also notice small water marks as a result of our rigorous testing and quality control process. These too are part of the natural characteristics of this finish and will fade subtly as the surface ages.

Patination

Over time, the waxed bronze finish will develop a richer, more complex patina. Exposure to water, air, and touch encourages a gentle transformation, where the dark bronze tones gradually wear to reveal warmer brass highlights on contact points, such as edges, levers, and spouts, adding depth and character to each piece.

To slow the ageing process and preserve the original look for longer, we recommend reapplying wax immediately after installation and at regular intervals thereafter. This will help protect the surface and maintain its subtle sheen.

Care and Handling

To preserve the integrity of the waxed finish during installation and early use we advise the following steps are followed using your supplied care package:

- We recommend using white cotton gloves when handling

- A light reapplication of beeswax after installation to help protect the surface. You should apply this gently using a soft cloth and avoid buffing.

For clients seeking a more controlled appearance, we also offer a lacquered version of our bronze finish. This option will maintain a more consistent look over time, without the natural ageing and patination associated with the waxed finish.

If you have any questions about which option is right for your project, or would like to see physical samples, please speak to your Studio Ore sales contact or get in touch with our team, who will be happy to advise.
