STORIES

What is unlacquered brass?

Unlacquered brass doesn’t have a protective coating. It will change and evolve with time. Darkening where water flows, lightening where it's touched most. Developing a patina, telling a story. It's a living finish. We’ve always thought there’s a beauty to it. Fittings in unlacquered brass become completely unique to their surroundings. Gaining character. The rate at which it patinates all depends on your home, and your home only. Humidity, water minerals, even the oils on your skin. We have no control. And that is why we like it so much. It’ll look different within months to how it looks when first installed.

Raw, unlacquered brass has always been our signature style. Solid brass taps with a living finish. It's a versatile material. We can hand-dip the brass to speed up the ageing process, or give it a new tone entirely. Such as bronze, aged iron, or even nickel. But brass will always remain at the heart of Studio Ore fittings. No matter what tone is on the surface. And nothing is plated onto something cheaper. Our finishes are what they say they are.

If you want the look of your fittings to change over time, to feel lived with, unlacquered brass is for you. Explore our full range of finishes here.
